PHAGWARA: Internet service would soon be introduced in the Golden Temple complex at Amritsar for hi-tech global propagation of Sikhism, Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Baur, acting president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), yesterday said. Addressing a congregation in memory of Atma Singh, patron of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Bhaur claimed that Sikhs world over would be able to do `sewa' of Kadah Parshad, listen to hukamnama, gurbani, kirtan and get literature through internet. To propagate Sikhism further three special vehicles with religious films, dhadis, kauishars, ragi literature, would go to all districts in Punjab and elsewhere, Bhaur said. Magistrates to probe police firing AMRAVATI: The district collector has appointed four sub-divisional magistrates to enquire into last week's police firing in the district. U S Garkar, sub-divisional magistrate of Amravati, had been appointed to enquire the police firing in the city, while J S Papadkar, sub-divisional magistrate of Daryapur, would look into the incidents in Shignapur, an official release said here. Two Israelis among 8 dead in mishap SHIMLA: Two Israelis were among eight people killed and 20 injured, 10 critically, when a bus skidded off the road and fell into a 200-ft gorge at Sarsari in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district yesterday. Five people died instantly and three succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. Of the two Israelis dead, one was identified as Osimon Oren. The other was a woman whose name could not be ascertained as her passport was not traceable. Rains claim more lives in Rajasthan JAIPUR: The south west monsoon which became active again in Rajasthan and claimed eight lives in two separate incidents in Pali district. The first mishap occurred near Siryali village where five persons were killed when a jeep in which they were travelling swept away in a rain water drain. Four dead bodies have been recovered while search is going on for the body of the vehicle's driver. In another incident three persons, travelling in a car, were killed when the vehicle swept away in a drain near Desuri. Curfew totally lifted in old Lucknow LUCKNOW: Curfew clamped on the walled city areas here on June 26 after sectarian strife was completely lifted today following restoration of normalcy, an official spokesman said. Indefinite curfew was imposed on Saadatganj chowk, Wazirganj, Aminabad and Nakkha police stations areas over the `azadari' row. Violence broke out when Shias demanded lifting of ban on the 20-year-old `azadari' (mourning) procession in old Lucknow. Inter-state transport pact soon BELGAUM: An inter-state passenger transport agreement between Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Maharashtra would be finalised shortly, Karnataka transport minister, P G R Sindhia, said today. He said that the matter, pending since 1992, would be finalised during the coming session of the state legislature.
