Quicktakes -- Notice to Centre on import duty

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the Union government and others on a petition by the publishers of The Hindu, challenging a customs order recommending levying of anti-dumping duty on newsprint importers. A division bench comprising Justice R C Lahoti and Justice J K Mehra asked the respondents including the designated authority, which passed the order on anti-dumping, and newsprint manufacturers association to file replies by August 6.

Uphaar fire

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation was today asked to investigate the June 13 Uphaar cinema blaze which claimed 59 lives, following allegations that there was an attempt to cover up and shield the guilty. Home Minister Indrajit Gupta directed the CBI to take charge of the necessary material and documents from the Delhi Police immediately and conduct the probe.
