MUMBAI, July 23: Unable to endure the clamor for more dowry from her husband and in-laws, a 22-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming insecticide on Tuesday night at Panvel. Nilofer Idris Ahmed had been married to Idris Ahmed, who works in the Gulf, two years ago. According to the police, she had been asked by her husband and her in-laws to bring Rs one lakh from her home at Uran for buying a new flat.

As per his daughter's request, Mohd Akbar Hussain Khan Sonde, the victim's father, had arranged for the amount by selling off the family valuables. But yesterday morning, he received the disturbing news that Nilofer had consumed insecticide, which the police suspected, was Baygon spray. Nilofer was rushed to the Paramount Hospital at Panvel by her family but was declared dead by 11.30 pm. The body was handed over to her father after postmortem.
