Left to vote against two bills

Vijay Simha

NEW DELHI, July 25: The Left Front (LF) today took a decisive step away from the United Front by announcing it would vote against two important bills placed by the Centre in Parliament.

The bills the four major Left parties will be voting against are the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) Bill and the Out-of-Turn Allocation Bill. Both were introduced in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Urban Affairs Minister U R Venkateswarlu respectively.

In effect, the Left is censuring the Government on policy matters, the first time this is happening after the UF coalition came to power.

A signed statement was issued today by members of the Left Front from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Signatories to this were: S Ramachandra Pillai, Biplab Dasgupta, E Balanandan, Basudeb Acharia, Ajay Chakravarty.
