MUMBAI, July 25: Sanjay Manjrekar released a book on physical fitness Fighting Fit Forever, written by karate tutor Farokh Dinshaw, at the Garware Club House last evening. The middle-order batsman said the book removed many misconceptions he had about weight training by cricketers as he had the opportunity to read through most of the contents before its official release. ``Whenever my father (late Test batsman Vijay Manjrekar) saw me using dumbells, he used to scold me by saying that they were detrimental to a cricketer's progress. But now I have realised that weight training is very useful for a cricketer. I have been training hard over the last few months to keep myself fit,'' Manjrekar said. Calling shuttlers n The Greater Bombay Badminton Association will be organising the Mumbai District championships at the Cricket Club of India from August 6 to 9. The tournament is being sponsored by Lifebuoy. Entry forms are available at the CCI and the last date for submitting it is July 30. Skating training The Fitness World Skating School will be starting a training in speed, and artistic roller skating for beginners in boys and girls above three years at Don Bosco school, Matunga, Goklibai Primary School, Vile Parle (west) and Gokuldham & Yashodham School, Goregaon (east). Chess Club IM Sekhar Sahu will give simultaneous chess display on 20 boards on the occasion of the inauguration of the Adarsh Chess Club on July 27. The player who beats Sahu stands to gain Rs 1,000. Carrom tourney Shree Pratapchandra Gupta Memorial district carrom tournament will commence from August 3 at the College Gymkhana Hall, Nagin Das college of commerce and arts. A total of Rs 25,000 is up for grabs at the tournament. Taekwondo meet The second all-Maharashtra Taekwondo Games '97 will be held on July 26 and 27.
