Details of probe into Kesri's assets sought

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, July 25: The Delhi High Court today sought details of investigations conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into allegations that Congress president, Sitaram Kesri, has allegedly amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A division bench comprising justice Jaspal Singh and justice Manmohan Sarin asked the CBI to submit the synopsis of the probe and the concerned file in a sealed cover to the court on August one and posted the matter for further hearing on August four.

Madhuresh, a freelance journalist has filed a revision petition seeking direction from the court to ask CBI to probe into the allegations against Kesri regarding disproportionate assets as well as the charges that he had bribed MLAs to get elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1988 and 1994.

Counsel for the CBI, Altaf Ahmed, submitted a CBI file to the court and contended that it would amply demonstrate the fairness with which the CBI had conducted the probe into allegations against Kesri.

Counsel for the petitioner, Prashant Bhusan, contended that the CBI did not verify the bank accounts of the MLAs who were bribed to facilitate Kesri's election.
