Ambattur Industrial Estate lacks infrastructure
CHENNAI, July 24: Paucity of facilities like power, roads and water has affected the propects of industries at the Ambattur Industrial Estate. The Estate which has 1,852 functional units and 200,000 employees, 30% of whom are women, experiances power tripping almost every day, according to Jayaraman, president of Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association. The Estate has a sales turnover of Rs 2,500 crore and generates property tax od Rs 1.5 crore which go to the Ambattur municipality treasury, from where it is diverted to other areas. With no one owning responsibility for quality power supply, proper management of road and sewage system, the Estate is in wanting of a proper authority to maintain the same, says he.
