New Indian Assurance directed to pay compensation
CHENNAI, July 24: The South Chennai consumer redressal forum has directed New India Assurance to pay a sum of Rs 1,36,500 to the family of a policy holder who had insured his bus for Rs 1.50 lakh. The bus was damaged in an accident in 1992. The company rejected his plea for Rs 2 lakh insurance as the bus was being used for transportation purposes. On his death, his relatives approached the State consumer redressal commission which ordered New India Assurance to pay Rs 1,36,500 as compensation.
