EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, July 29: Even as the state government has been working overtime for the grand celebration to commemorate golden jubilee of quit India movement on August 9, the non-Congress opposition parties have come together to say "quit Maharashtra" to the ruling coalition. When about 600 national and international dignitaries are expected to be in the city to participate in the celebration, the non-Congress opposition parties have planned a morcha on August 8 to demand the dismissal of the state government. The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held yesterday. The meeting was attended by leaders of Republican Party of India, Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, CPI, CPM, PWP, Kamgar Aghadi and Dalit Sena. A coordination committee of all these parties was also set up to spread the agitation through out the state. The August 8 morcha would commence from Azad Maidan and would culminate in a rally at Mantralaya. A section of Janata Dal leadership has been expressing displeasure about Prime Minister I K Gujral's expected participation in the celebration. They feel that the Prime Minister should stay away from the show organised by Shiv Sena-BJP government. Similarly, a section of state Congress leadership has written to the party president, Sitaram Kesri, not to participate. The state minister for cultural affairs Pramod Navalkar today refused to reveal the names of dignitaries who are expected to participate in the celebration. He said the list would be finalised in a couple of days. Copyright © 1997 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
