[Details] The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has revived an old Indian bugbear: the import lobby. Accused of supplying substandard rail-track material SAIL, has cited the "import lobby" in giving it a bad name.

The greening of Gujarat -- Unsung miracle of Sardar Sarovar

[Details] North Gujarat was green this July. It had rained torrentially. Mehsana experiencing a precipitation unmatched in 75 years. Come October and the landscape will turn brown again, as it usually does for most of the year.

Crippling the bandh -- It is a crude, street-level expression

[Details] After a patently silly ruling calling for an end to student politics, the Kerala High Court has redeemed itself with an extremely mature judgment on bandhs. The bandh has become an acceptable form of political protest only because a hapless populace has become inured to its regular use.
