Stay on granting of foreign degrees in India

CHENNAI, July 31: The Madras High Court has restrained foreign universities from collecting fees, conducting classes and conferring degrees on students in India.

Justice N V Balasubramaniam granted the interim stay valid for four weeks while admitting a writ petition from R Sethuraman praying for a direction to the Union Human Resources secretary, AICTE, UGC and the State education secretary to prohibit foreign universities from conferring degrees in India either directly or by establishing centres in the country.
