AUG 6: Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) cracked tough nuts Holy Family with a 2-0 victory in the Harwood League football match played under the auspices of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) at the St Xavier's ground, Parel, today.

Holy Family dominated a goalless first half but succumbed to a late surge by ONGC after the change of ends. Forward Dominic D'Souza was instrumental in both the goals setting up one and scoring the second .He first helped break the deadlock in the 44th minute with a fine pass to Shekar Chikale to score. The goal saw ONGC attack with renewed vigour.

D'Souza then displayed some good footwork, dodging past defenders before ending the fine solo run with a left-footer into the net.The winners could have crasked a third when Shekar Chikale almost got the ball past the Holy Family goalkeeper Augustine D'Silva. But D'Silva had no intentions of letting this by. The alert goalkeeper charged ahead and took control of the ball before Chikale could get it.

ONGC registered their fourth victory in six matches. Holy Family played their second match today. They had won their previous face-off with Saki Village Boys with a thumping margin of 4-1.

While goals have been a rare commodity for the past couple of days, the scorer was kept busy today with goals in plenty. A Div I league match between Greater Bombay Police Jr (GBP) and Wadala Parish saw as many as six goals. GBP Jr trounced Wadala Parish 5-1. Babu Kohram starred in this victory by scoring a double. Venkatesh Todwalkar scored the first goal for the winners which was the only goal in the first half. Peter Rodrigues reduced the margin for Wadala Parish when they were three goals down.But Vasant Gade and Abid Abdul with two more goals sealed Wadala's hopes to make a comeback into the game.

Young Boys Siddharth failed to turn up for their Div III league encounter against Jet Airways.
