Almost all TN villages to have phones by '98

CHENNAI, August 5: Almost all the 17,991 villages in Tamil Nadu are to have telephone links by the end of the 1997-98 financial year. Even the few villages where telephone connections were not feasible for technical reasons are to be covered by satellite during the Ninth Plan period. There is a waiting list of 2,85,000 at present, and, during the year, 2,49,000 new connections are to be provided.
