MUMBAI, Aug 7: Second Seed Sailesh Vora (State Bank of India) crashed to teenager Dayanand Naik (Anudatta Commerce College) in the second round of the Entrant's Division chess tournament organised by the Bombay Chess Association at the Zandu Pharmaceutical Canteen, today.

Another collegian, Mulund Commerce's Ashish Thatte, the top seed broke no sweat in getting past Harish Iyer to make the third round.

Deokule stuns Boricha Ramesh Deokule sprung a major upset at the Pratapchandra Gupta Memorial District Ranking carrom tournament at the Nagindas Khandwala College Gymkhana Hall, Malad, today.

Deokule beat former State champion Harji Boricha in a thrilling three-game encounter 14-25, 25-13, 25-9 to make the fourth round.

Keenan nets two

Catholic Gymkhana trounced Versova Village Boys 5-0 in the Gulf Oil WIFA First Division football match at the Cooperage, today.Two goals by Keenan Oliver and one each by Shaun Nunes, Walter Pinto and Savio D'Souza helped the Gymkhana to a runaway win.

Aces high

Ace XI held Scorpions SC to a 1-1 draw in the MDFA Chhatrappati Shivaji Division I football league at the St Xavier's Ground, Parel, today.

Osborne D'Souza shot Scorpions into the lead in the 15th minute from Francis Misquitta's pass.

Ace XI equalised just seven minutes later when Jaideep Sarkar blasted into an open goal from top of the box giving the keeper no chance.

In another match, Khalsa Gymkhana drew goalless with Young Rangers (Sahar).The Independence Cup matches will commence tomorrow at the same venue.
