Naxalites defy ban to hold meetings
HYDERABAD, August 6: Unfazed by the government ban on the organisation, the naxalite People's War Group held a series of public meetings, spread over the past week, at various strongholds. Announcements regarding the meetings were made in advance, and the shows were attended by hundreds, even thousands of people. Buoyed by the failure of the keepers of the law to prevent the meetings, the outlawed organisation is now reportedly planning to extend its armed operations to towns and district headquarters in the Telengana region of AP. Squads of 10-12 members each are to be formed for the purpose. Copyright © 1997 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
