Punjab proposes Rs 13,500 cr for Ninth Plan

CHANDIGARH, AUG 8: Punjab Government has proposed its Ninth Five-Year Plan at Rs 13,500 crore which would be more than double the Eighth Plan (Rs 6,570 crore).The draft plan is likely to be approved on Monday during a meeting between Punjab delegation led by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Madhu Dandavate in New Delhi. Official sources disclosed on Thursday that the new plan, to be spread over from 1997-98 to 2001-2002, would emphasise power, irrigation, roads, bridges and building social infrastructure like dispensaries and schools in a big way.
