Assam may bring in Army to control ultras

GUWAHATI, Aug 8: The Assam Government has been thinking of bringing in the Army here in order to contain militancy following the killing of two Army officers, including a brigadier, here today by ULFA militants.

An official press release issued here after Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta reviewed the situation with senior cabinet colleagues and officials said they were going to ``rethink the recent decision of withdrawing the Army from Guwahati and Jorhat cities''.

The government had announced the extension of the unified command system for a further period of six months while withdrawing the Army from Guwahati and Jorhat cities on an experimental basis. Mahanta visited the G M C Hospital where the two officers were brought in dead.
