Poisoning case at Bhivandi

August 8: As many as 109 persons, including 90 students, were hospitalised after they inhaled poisonous fumes emanating from an insecticides godown at Kalher village in the powerloom town of Bhivandi, Thane district on Thursday.The students and 19 teachers, including three women, of new English high school complained of dizziness and vomiting after they inhaled the fumes and were admitted to IGM Hospital, police on Friday said adding that they were out of danger.

The godown, `J K Warehouse', had caught fire on August five due to short circuit, police said adding that toxic fumes might have emanated out of the cooling embers. The police have registered a case of negligence against the godown owner, Bakulbhai Rajanlal Shah. Another case has also been registered against him under the provisions of environment protection bill, 1986, they added.
