Cleanliness drive at Chennai Beach Station
CHENNAI, August 7: A cleanliness drive was inaugurated at the Chennai Beach Station, as part of the Railways' country-wide campaign to mark the golden jubilee of Indian independence. The year-long event aims to create passenger awareness about cleanliness and motivate Railway staff involved in the upkeep of waiting rooms, platforms, toilets and drinking water facilities at stations. Southern Railway General Manager P Ramachandran said a `Train of Freedom' would also be flagged off from Kanyakumari on August 17. The train will have 10 compartments, each depicting one aspect of Indian life, starting from the pre-independence days to the present. Copyright © 1997 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
