NAGPUR, Aug 11: The corporator of Chinteshwar ward here, Bharat Mohadikar, who was recently arrested by the city police in connection with murder of a woman, has been detained under the Maharashtra Slumlords, Bootleggers, Dangerous Persons Activities (Prevention) Act. Mohadikar is also an office bearer of Arun Gawli's Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS).

In an order issued by the Commissioner of Police, T Singaravel, Mohadikar has been sent to jail for one year. He was still in magisterial custody when the order was served on him.Mohadikar created flutter in the city, when he allegedly murdered one Rekha Nikhare in her house near Chinteshwar temple in Lakadganj area along with his three accomplices on July 17.

Mohadikar is alleged to have planned an attack on Rekha's brother Chandrashekhar Nikhare over old enmity but ended up murdering Rekha when she intervened.

Since then, Mohadikar was absconding and allegedly reached Mumbai on the same day of the murder to attend the ABS rally. Police arrested his accomplice but were unable to trace Mohadikar for more than a week.

Lakadganj police arrested him at Chhatrapati Nagar when he was reportedly on his way to a lawyer.Contradicting police claims, Mohadikar presented documents in the court showing his presence in Mumbai on the day of the murder and a day earlier. But he failed to get bail and was remanded.

Mohadikar's criminal career dates back to 1986 and his offences range from assault, possessing weapon illegally, attack on government employees, rioting and attempt to murder.
