Traffic snarls irk Wadala students
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, August 11: Hundreds of students from Wadala schools today staged a peaceful rasta roko protesting the traffic police and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's failure to provide for a two-way traffic on the Antop Hill bridge ramp. The Coordination Committee for Heavy Traffic Hazard, which organised the students from schools including St Joseph's, Auxillium Convent, NKES, South India Welfare Society, Khalsa college etc has threatened to move the high court and approach the Lok Ayukta. A committee spokesperson said last week BMC engineers and the traffic department had experimented with two-way traffic on the ramp. All vehicles including heavy containers and trailers passed through the half-portion of the wide ramp without any hitches, he explained. A committee spokesperson said the matter was taken up with the concerned authorities seven years ago by the Wadala Neighbourhood Association.Later, other organisations have joined hands with the committee.
