EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, August 11: Two stunning goals by Anthony Gonsalves for ONGC condemned Saki Village Boys to their second consecutive loss by ONGC in the Mumbai District Football Association-conducted Harwood League at St Xavier ground, Parel today. The young Saki Village team started well as they dominated the exchanges in first 15 minutes. But the trend changed in favour of the experienced ONGC when they scored from their very first move. It came from left-wing through Sydney Xavier who passed across to Sanjay Dhanu, who came charging in and smashed it in. Saki Village Boys launched on an immediate hunt for the equaliser. John Lobo got the opportunity, but his 20-yard shot was neatly collected by goalkeeper Sandeep Sawant. But ONGC scored again. Ashyln Lobo pushed a pass from the left to Gonsalves, who buried a right-foot shot into the right corner of Johnson D'Souza, the Saki Village goalkeeper. By now ONGC had their writ large over the match with their medios feeding the wingers with enough bullets to break open the Saki defence. Ashlyn Lobo, who started in the centre-half position, was exceptionally good with his ball control while his fellow medio, Brian D'Mello, was skillful. In the early minutes of second half Saki Village defender David D'Souza his team from falling further behind after custodian Johnson was beaten in a one-to-one situation with Joe Dias executing a perfect lob. David came from nowhere and hooked the ball to safety. ONGC kept the pressure on the Saki Village goal with their attacks from the wings, particularly from the left. In the 53minute, Gonsalves put it beyond Saki Village Boys's reach by scoring his second and the team's third. Joe Dias, was once again in the thick of things as he passed to Gonsalves after beating three Saki Village defenders. Missing a chance was not in the diary of Gonsalves. He again found the Saki Village goal with efficiency. Saki Village got a consolation goal through an absolute stunning effort. Feroz Patel punished the ONGC goalkeeper, Sandeep Sawant who was off his line, with a lob that entered from the right. ONGC have won four matches from six while Saki Village have just one from three matches. In earlier matches, BEST defeated Adarsh club by 1-0 in the Chhatrapati Shivaji First Division League match. BEST scored the winning goal in the dying minutes with Trevor Nunes providing Mohammed Yusuf Sheikh the pass for the strike. In another match Marol Village thrashed Nelson Boys 5-2 in the Division III match. Swapnil Coehlo scored a hat-trick while Julius Moreas and Conrad Vaz got the other two goals.
