Male banter seals fate of women's quota Bill
At the all-party meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma yesterday, MPs refused to knock together a consensus on the controversial bill providing for 33% reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Union parliamentary affairs minister Srikant Jena stated that the bill has been deferred till the Winter session.

The Centre yesterday admitted that the Illegal Migrants Determination by Tribunal (IMDT) Act had been ineffective in expelling foreigners from Assam, and indicated that it would repeal the law if other political parties gave the go-ahead.

The Unit Trust of India plans to launch another offshore equity fund, this time targeted at the public sector unit (PSU) stocks. G P Gupta, chairman, UTI, informed that the plan for the launch of this scheme will be finalised over the next fortnight.

Panel backs return to price parity on key fertilisers
The Union farm ministry panel on "Critical Agriculture Inputs - Fertilisers" has recommended the need to bring back the price parity that existed in 1991-92 between urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP) and muriate of potash (MoP).

Centre to sketch oil bonds nitty-gritty soon
The Centre is close to deciding on the modalities for the issue of 10-year bonds to public sector oil companies who are owed money from the oil pool account. The deficit in the pool account is around Rs 15,500 crore.
