Nawar keeps lead after seven rounds

MUMBAI, August 13: Nitin Nawar of Mumbai Police continued to lead the field at the end of the seventh round of the Entrant's Division Chess Tournament at the Zhandu Pharmaceuticals Works Canteen Hall today.

Nawar, seeded No 13, handled the black side of the Benoni Defence game against No 11 seed Omprakash. Both players exchanged all pieces except a pair of opposite colour bishops and agreed for a draw after 40 moves.

On the second board, Thatte was held by unseeded Vivek Thoopal in a rook and pawn end game in 53 moves.
