BOTTOMS UP...UBI'S Vijay Thapa thwarts an Air-India attack spectacularly during their Super Division match at Cooperage today.

MUMBAI, August 13: League leaders Air-India drew their third match in the Gulf Oil Western India Football Association-conducted Super Division match against Union Bank at the Cooperage today.

Air-India remained unbeaten in the first leg comprising seven matches, but they were lucky in the final analysis to have escaped with the one point than having to face the ignominy of loss.

Considering the soporific nature of the match with Air-India having little opportunity upfront, it was Union Bank who had more chances. Air-India, having rested quite a few players from their previous encounter against Central Railway, never came even close to taking a shot at the Union Bank goal.

The entire first half saw not a goal mouth action, with Air-India attacking all the time, Union Bank had little opportunity to move in front. The tide however, changed in the second half with Union Bank getting a couple of openings.

Ryan D'Souza, the little bustling forwards in the Bankers's ranks, was a threat. Unfortunately he received little support. On one such opening was created by Ryan himself as he ran down the middle and flicked to Vijay Thapa, who returned the ball back to Ryan. Ryan's low left-foot shot from inside the area was blocked out by Air-India goalkeeper Shyam Sawant.

In the First division match, Punjab National Bank defeated Goan Sports Association 3-1. Adrian Moraes scored a brace while Colin Miranda scored the third goal. Pratik Nerker reduced the margin.
