Obscure hamlet in Kashmir to host mother of all bashes

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, AUG 17: Hajin, an obscure village located in the city outskirts, promises to hold the biggest social event of the Valley in September.

A sea of people is expected to converge here for the marriage of three children of militant-turned-Legislator Kukka Parrey.

A helipad is all set to be constructed specially for the day. A number of senior Army officers, both from Srinagar and Delhi, are expected. Besides other politicians, Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah is also expected to grace the occasion.

While Army authorities are laying the small helipad, the State authorities are finally replacing the slushy paths with pucca roads in this sprawling village considered to be inhabited by one of the poorest sections of the society.

Parrey is reportedly seeking services of a New Delhi-based Kashmiri artist for designing a special card for the occasion. The card is supposed to incorporate some Kashmiri symbols and designs, sources close to the Legislator told The Indian Express.

The marriage bash is expected to be a prolonged affair. With Parrey's well-known penchant for hospitality, the event is all set to be a trend-setter of sorts.
