MUMBAI, Aug 25: Unseeded Nizamuddin Kamruddin (Ideal School) outclassed Swanand Pawar (Thane College) in straight games to triumph in the finals of the boys singles at the inaugural Inter-Schools Carrom Tournament at the Dadoji Konddeo Stadium, Thane. Nizamuddin won 25-0, 25-16.

Menal Sawala of Singhania School defeated Jyotsna Pethe of Saraswati School also in straight games 25-14, 25-16 to win the girls singles title. In the boys singles group B final Minaz Shaikh of Anjuman school defeated Yogesh Bane of AK Joshi School 25-17 25-7 to annexe the title while Minaz Shaikh (Ideal School) beat school mate Jishan Khan 25-0 25-10 in straight games to triumph in the girls singles group B.

Girls (group a, finals): Meenal Sawala (Singhania) bt Jyotsna Pethe (Saraswati) 25-14 25-16. Semi-finals: Jyotsna Pethe bt Shabhana Ansari (Ideal) 25-8 25-12; Meenal Savla bt Sumita Pharthade (Saraswati) 25-14 25-8.

Group B (final): Minaz Shaikh (Ideal) bt Zeeshan Khan (Ideal) 25-0 25-10. Semi-final: Minaz Shaikh (Ideal) bt Sneha thakur (Singhania) 25-0 25-10; Zeeshan Khan (Ideal) bt Renuka Taralkar (Amrute) 7-25 25-21 25-16.

Karkala Taluk win

Karkala Taluk defeated Udupi Taluk by 7 wickets in the Sargum Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Nariman point parking ground, today. Set a target of 32 runs in 8 overs by Udupi, Karkala reached the winning score in five overs, losing 3 wickets. Dinesh Hegde was declared `Best Batsmen' while Pravin Shetty was selected as `Best Bowler'.

Brief scores: Udupi Taluka 31-8 (6 overs) lost to Karkala Taluka 32-3 (5 overs). Man of the Match: Sunil Shetty.
