[Details] Spam, originally, was just Spiced Pork and Ham, and lived a quiet life in unassuming little tins on store shelves. Then Monty Python brought it fame with his Spam Sketch, in which a man and his wife walk into a cafe full of Vikings and find themselves stuck with spam -- and more spam.

[Details] My favourite professor in the security and international relations business has for long banned the use of two expressions in his classes: "superpower" and "the Third World". One reason he has done it, he says, is because being the head of the department, he can get away with it.

Be Asian on human rights

[Details] The recent annual United Nations discussions on human rights brought into sharp focus the gradual politicisation of the concept. Sir Stephen Sedley rightly observed in Human Rights: A 21st Century Agenda that "human rights are a commodity like any other, capable of being traded for political or economic advantage, and the rhetoric little more the conduct of politics by other means".
