Yeltsin to visit India in January
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
MOSCOW, November 4: Russian President Boris Yelstin will pay a three-day official visit to India from January 19 during which both the countries are expected to sign several agreements including an extradition treaty and a legal pact to combat crime. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov made the announcement about the visit after his talks with visiting Indian Foreign Secretary K Raghunath and said it ``will become a milestone'' in the development of bilateral relations. A two billion dollar Indo-Russian deal for the construction of Kudankulam atomic power station in Tamil Nadu was also expected to be signed during the visit, according to official sources here. The power station would be the only major project of its kind to be financed wholly by Russia in a foreign country. Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his Russian counterpart Anatoly Chubais are expected to negotiate the financial aspects of the project during a meeting of the Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission to be held later this month in New Delhi, the Foreign Secretary indicated.
