PUNE: Veteran social worker and crusader against corruption, Anna Hazare has demanded a CBI inquiry into the corruption charges levelled by him against former Maharashtra agriculture minister Shashikant Sutar. In his letter to Prime Minister I K Gujral, Hazare has also sought an appointment with him to discuss the issue. ``We have no faith in the Dudhat commission's report. It is pre-planned'', Hazare told reporters here on Tuesday.

Two people killed in explosion

KOLHAPUR: Two persons including a 10-year-old boy were killed and a woman injured in a powerful explosion in a house in Nandre village of Miraj tehsil in Sangli district last night. According to Sangli police sources, one Matabai Shivaji Hugare had recently moved to Nandre with her son Appasaheb as a tenant. A shop-keeper reportedly involved in illegal petrol and kerosene business, kept the stock at her house. The ignited petrol caused the fire.

Train dacoities on the rise

RAIPUR: Incidents of drugging and looting of passengers in Bilaspur division of south-eastern railway are on the increase and criminal gangs from Rajgangpur in Orissa were found involved in most such cases, a senior police official has said here. Talking to members of Raipur Press Club on Monday, N L Dongre, superintendent of railway police, Raipur, said the gangs from Rajgangpur were found to be involved in most drugging cases.

Thieves lay hands on judge's house

NAGPUR: Thieves did not spare even the house of a judge at Nyayadhish Niwas, Civil Lines on Sunday and decamped with valuables worth Rs 30,000. Judicial Magistrate First Class, Rajendra Govindrao Wankhede (39), was out of town with his family when the theft occurred.
