Anwar, Sohail steer Pak to easy victory

LAHORE, Nov 4: Pakistan defeated West Indies by eight wickets with 9.2 overs to spare in their second match of the Golden Jubilee Quadrangular trophy one-day cricket tournament. Opening batsman Saeed Anwar led the home side's victory charge with an unbeaten 108, assisted by Aamir Sohail who also remained unconquered on 75. The two added an unbroken 164 runs off 175 balls for the third wicket.West Indies' front-line batsmen fell cheaply as Pakistan restricted them to 215 for seven in the opening innings today. Phil Simmons and opener Stuart Williams helped West Indies surpass the 200-mark with half centuries after the other batsmen failed to reach double figures. Simmons made 70 off 103 balls while Williams cracked 10 fours in his 75 before he was bowled by Azhar Mehmood in the 33rd over. After skipper Courtney Walsh lost his third toss in this four-team competition, Pakistan sent the West Indies in to bat. West Indies crumbled to 56 for four in only the 17th over of the innings. Simmons and Williams then put on 74 runs for the fifth wicket.
