Leaders' day out in Malaysian haze
November 4: Leaders of G-15 visited Malacca today for talks and a bit of sightseeing, but smoky haze from forest fires in Indonesia spoiled the view. Indonesian President Suharto, has apologized for the environmental problems caused by the fires. The VIP entourage departed early today for Malacca by bus and car under heavy security from a brand-new equestrian-theme hotel known as The Palace of the Golden Horses in the suburbs of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. They boarded two luxury coaches with police motorcycle escorts and were trailed by aides in cars and vans as two helicopters hovered above the hotel complex, located on the shores of a lake.
