Short Corner -- Etambe, Anupama top seeds

November 4: National Champion Nagsen Etambe is the Open singles top seed while Anupama Kedar enjoys pride of place in the women's singles at the Ratnagiri District Carrom Association's 1st Mayor Trophy State Ranking tournament 1997.

The event will be staged at Nagar Vachanalay Hall, Jayasthamb, Ratnagiri and is being organised under the auspices of the Maharashtra Carrom Association from Nov 5-9. The tournament has attracted as many as 460 players from all over the state. The tournament will run competition in the open singles, open doubles, junior boys singles and women's singles.

Offering Rs 50,000 as prize money, the tournament will also see former National champion and nine-time State champion Anupama Kedar in action. Ratnagiri Mayor, Umesh Shetye is sponsoring the event.

SEEDINGS:

Open singles: 1. Nagsen Etambe, 2. Niranjan Nimkar, 3. Aslam Chikte, 4. Jagan Bengle.

Women's singles: 1. Anupama Kedar, 2. Shilpa Joshi, 3. Monaz Cooper, 4. Sujata Haylinge.

Open doubles: 1. Saajid Sayyad/Dilesh Khedekar, 2. Narsing Rao/Suhas Pomendkar.

Junior singles: 1. Mukesh Sharma, 2. Vithal Shigwan, 3. Liyaqat Nagaraji, 4. Dinesh Boricha.

Suvarna match commissioner

The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed Madhav G Suvarna match commissioner at the Rovers Cup football tournament conducted by Western India Football Association (WIFA) starting on November 10.

Suvarna, an employee of Cental Bank of India, is an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) international match official and a referees' instructor.
