Major reshuffle of public prosecutors

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

MUMBAI, November 5: In a significant development, the law and judiciary department has effected a major reshuffle of public prosecutors in the Bombay High Court and other courts after assessing their performance and the past records.

The action comes in the wake of the prosecution-police tussle in the Gulshan Kumar murder case which led to the exit of senior public prosecutor and government pleader V T Tulpule amidst allegations by police that he had not strongly opposed the bail of accused Ramesh Taurani, owner of Tips Cassettes.

In a notification issued yesterday, the law and judiciary department has terminated the services of Vasanti Dighe and Manohar Namdeo Zambre, assistant government pleaders in the Bombay High Court, with immediate effect.

The resignation of V B Sakhre from the post of assistant government pleader has been accepted while Amrut Desai, public prosecutor in sessions court, has been appointed as special public prosecutor of Central Bureau of Investigation in the serial blast case tried by the designated TADA court at Mumbai central prison.
