Globetrotting -- Talbott-Qichen talks on cards


BEIJING: US Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott has arrived in Beijing for an official visit, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said on Tuesday. Talbott, who arrived on Monday evening, was expected to hold talks with Foreign Minister Qian Qichen, Defence Minister Chi Haotian and other officials before departing for Japan later on Tuesday.

Li in Japan

TOKYO: Chinese Premier Li Peng arrived in Japan on Tuesday for a six-day official visit to meet Japanese political and business leaders, officials said. Li is scheduled to meet with the Japanese emperor and hold talks with Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto as well as various government officials and business leaders.

NZ imbroglio

WELLINGTON: New Zealand First (NZF), the junior partner in the New Zealand coalition government, said on Tuesday it would decide on Saturday whether to accept the National Party's election of Jenny Shipley as new Prime minister.

Paedophile held

TEGUCIGALPA: Interpol nabbed an Australian suspected paedophile wanted for 85 counts of mostly sexual abuse against children, Honduran Police said on Monday. Reports out of Sydney quoted authorities as saying Dunn was involved in a child pornography ring.
