PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, November 11: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director R C Sharma, who suffered multiple fractures after he fell from an aircraft at Guwahati airport, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here today. A team of senior orthopaedic surgeons, including AIIMS director Prof P K Dave, examined the CBI chief, flown in here by a special Indian Air Force plane. According to Dr R C Anand, the institute Medical Superintendent (MS), Sharma, suffering from multiple fractures, ``was stable and thankfully there are no internal injuries or haemorrhage,'' and added that all his vital organs were functioning normally. Sharma, 59, who was in Guwahati for a court appearance in connection with the multi-crore veterinary scam, had a fall from a height of 20 feet when the aircraft ladder was removed while he was boarding the flight to Delhi yesterday. The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation and Indian Airlines had ordered separate inquiries into the mishap. Preliminary probe into lapses, if any, causing Sharma's fall yesterday began at the Borjhar airport today. The final report would be submitted by the Indian Airlines to its head office. Several airport and Indian Airlines officials were questioned.
