De Villiers, Hudson face the axe

ASSOCIATED PRESS

JOHANNESBURG, November 11: Seam bowler Fanie de Villiers was left off the South African cricket team to tour Australia despite solid performances in the recent four-nation tournament in Pakistan.

De Villiers, who has come back from a series of injuries in recent months, fell victim to the team's wealth of all-rounders, with both Jacques Kallis and Brian McMillan returning to the South African side after injuries.

Batsman Herschelle Gibbs will replace Andrew Hudson and pace bowler Roger Telemachus in place of injured Brett Schultz.

TEAM: Gary Kirsten (v-c), Adam Bacher, Herschelle Gibbs, Daryll Cullinan, Jacques Kallis, Hansie Cronje (C), Brian McMillan, Jonty Rhodes, Shaun Pollock, Lance Klusener, Dave Richardson, Pat Symcox, Paul Adams, Allan Donald, Roger Telemachus, Mark Boucher.
