Srinath in team for Mohali test

Karnataka's bowling trio is back. Paceman Javagal Srinath was out of the team with a shoulder problem since March, while Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble return after being "rested" for the recent one-day series against Pakistan in Toronto and Pakistan.

Anand in 2nd spot with easy victory

Viswanathan Anand at last had an easy game, thrashing Aleksandar Kovacevic in 30 moves following a Ruy Lopez opening in the fourth round of the sixth Investbanka International chess tournament. The win Anand scored with black pieces carried him into the joint second place with Alexi Shirov with 2.5 points after four rounds.

Sampras saunters into final

World No 1 Pete Sampras reached the final of the ATP Tour World Championship with a comfortable victory over Swede Jonas Bjorkman yesterday. Sampras, seeking a fourth triumph in the season-ending event for the world's top eight players, needed just 75 minutes to move past Bjorkman 6-3 6-4 in a one-sided semifinal.
