Convicts' kin pelt stones after court verdict

NASHIK, November 18: In an unprecedented incident, a group of people pelted stones at the additional sessions court on Monday evening, after judge S M Shembele convicted six youths for rape and sentenced them to ten years rigorous imprisonment.

As soon as the judge pronounced the judgement, relatives of the six youths waiting outside the courtroom, pelted stones. The judge, lawyers and the convicts were confined to the courtroom as the relatives had a field-day hurling abuses and stones at the court. Seven persons, including five women, were arrested. On May 21, 1997, six youths had raped a married woman. The woman had filed a complaint with Panchavati police station.
