Mumbai Notes -- BEST employee arrested


The general branch of Mumbai police on Monday arrested an employee of BEST in connection with the Vaibhavlaxmi money circulation scheme floated by Ashok Sheregar. Prahlad Bandivadekar (29), a mechanic in BEST's Dadar workshop, was arrested under Prize Chits and Money Circulation Scheme (Banning) Act, 1978. Police said he was looking after the financial affairs of the scheme as an agent . PI Chavan is investigating the case.

Consumer body

Consumer Guidance Society of India (CGSI), the oldest member of Consumers International (CI) was elected to the council of CI by the General Assembly at its meeting in Santiago (Chile) on Nov 4. CI, formerly the International Organisation of Consumers Union is a federation of 220 consumers groups from 100 countries, a press-note said.

Water cut

Water supply to Thane, Badlapur, Dombivli, Ambernath, Belapur, Navi Mumbai and other villages in the vicinity will be affected on Friday between 9 am and 6 pm. A Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) release attributed this to urgent maintenance works being carried out at the Barvi Water Works, Jambul.
