Mumbai Beat -- Stay on Y P Singh's eviction extended
The Bombay High Court today ordered the Estate Manager (Central Government) not to evict IPS officer Y P Singh from his present residence in Hyderabad Estate. Singh has filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging his repatriation from CBI to state police headquarters. While he has been transferred to Nagpur, Singh has proceeded on leave, claiming to be illegally and prematurely repatriated. He has not yet reported on duty in Nagpur. The court had earlier granted a stay on the eviction, which was extended today. Singh's petition was also admitted by Justice Ashok Agarwal and Vishnu Sahai. His petition attributes his repatriation to `sensitive' files handled by him. The Estate Manager had objected to Singh's stay in Hyderabad Estate. Singh was also asked to pay Rs 38,000 as rent per month. Singh, who is himself arguing his case, today expressed the inability of a civil servant to pay such a huge sum. Cops' plea on Taurani bail The Supreme Court today admitted a special leave petition filed by Mumbai Police challenging bail granted to Tips owner Ramesh Taurani by Bombay High Court last month in connection with the murder of music baron Gulshan Kumar on August 12, 1997. According to a senior officer in the crime branch, the court today issued a notice to Taurani asking why his bail should not be cancelled since his role in the murder case is very prominent. Taurani has been given two days' time to file his say. The matter is scheduled for hearing on November 24. State Government lawyer Nargulkar appeared for Mumbai police. The petition was filed by Mumbai police on November 11, 1997. Hooch toll reaches 26 Another victim of the Raigad hooch tragedy died at King Edward Memorial Hospital last night, taking the toll to 26.
