Ghatkopar YMCA down Wellingdon

MUMBAI, November 18: Ghatkopar YMCA A beat a fighting Wellingdon YMCA 64-61 in an exciting match in the mini boys category of the 10 Bombay YMCA Basketball Tournament at YMCA Pant Nagar today. The tournament is organised by the Ghatkopar YMCA and sponsored by Kasara Engineering Private Ltd.

Though the Ghatkopar boys had the height advantage, Wellingdon showed true grit in reducing a 15-point lead and equalling the scores in the third quarter. They even managed a three-point lead before Vivek Shetty equalised the score and then gave them the lead.

Shardul was the top-scorer for the hosts with 16 points, followed by 10 each by Manish, Vivek and Pradeep. For Wellingdon, Ansari Abu Talaha scored 17 points.

In other matches, Father Agnel beat Ghatkopar YMCA B 72-30 with Binoy KB scoring 22 points, while Agradneya beat Central YMCA B 37-31 in junior boys matches.SAI rout HOC

Sports Authority of India (SAI) went on a rampage as they thrashed Hindustan Organics & Chemicals, Rasaini 15-1 in the Bombay Provincial tournament organised by BHA at the Mahindra Stadium today.

Zuber Khan fired five goals which included a hat-trick. Gurmeet Singh was the other prominent scorer, netting four. Other scorers were Rajeev Bhatkar (2), Tabrej, Sagar Thakur, Irshad Ali and Zuber Ahmed (one each).

Wenden qualify

Wenden Institute defeated Khalsa Gymkhana A 1-0 to qualify for the Division I play-off matches for the MDFA organised Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Trophy at the St Xavier's Ground, Parel, today. The match winner came in the 55th minute by Salauddin Siddique.
