Govt rescinds circular against press leaks

[Details] The embarrassed Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government yesterday unconditionally withdrew the controversial circular according to which officials were restrained from interacting with the members of the fourth estate. The circular envisaged disciplinary action under the provisions of the Maharashtra Civil Service (Discipline) Rules and All India Civil Service (Discipline) Rules against the erring employees.

BJP to press for voting on ATR

[Details] After clamouring publicly for the immediate tabling of the Jain Commission's interim report and discussions on it, Congress leaders at the Lok Sabha Speaker's all-party meeting yesterday were hunting for excuses to put off a discussion. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), meanwhile, announced that it would table a motion in the Lok Sabha under Rule 184 that the House consider the Jain Commission's interim report and express its dissatisfaction with the Government's follow-up action on it.

SC again summons Nawaz Sharif for contempt hearing

[Details] Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif will have to appear in court for the second time in person today before a full bench of the Supreme Court, hearing a contempt of court case against him and eleven others, despite frenzied efforts by the parliament to amend the law to save him. The Supreme Court bench rejected the plea of Sharif's counsel to exempt Sharif from appearing before the court today.
