Group of Ministers to draft ATR

[Details] Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral has constituted a Group of Ministers (GOM) to prepare an Action Taken Report (ATR) on the findings of the Jain Commission. The GOM has been set up to counter the possible repercussions of the report on India's relations with its neighbours.

Cong MPs favour snap poll

[Details] Congress president Sitaram Kesri's ploy to buy time on the Jain Commission report seems to be failing with a large section of party MPs preferring a snap poll to another deal with the United Front (UF). Most Congress MPs opined that the Congress must insist on the ouster of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) from the UF Ministry and that the party should withdraw support to the Government if the DMK stays. This is a clear indication of the general preference within the Congress for a mid-term poll.

Sonia assurance enthuses Cong chief

[Details] Armed with an assurance from Sonia Gandhi that she would campaign for the Congress if need be, a jubilant Sitaram Kesri has hardened his position on the Jain Commission findings. A mini-meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has been in session at his residence since Monday night and members feel that that there could be no compromise on the Action Taken Report (ATR) on findings, regardless of consequences.
