No headway in Delhi bus mishap probe

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, November 21: It is 72 hours after 28 children were drowned in a bus accident on the Wazirabad bridge, but police investigations into the tragedy are yet to begin.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police of the North District spent the last two days preparing reports, but on Thursday, with the investigation yet to begin, there was time enough for him to attend a seminar on professional management at The Hilton. The police have yet to trace the real owner of the bus. No arrests have been made so far and the police are yet to ascertain the culpability of either the contractor or the administration. In fact the Northern range additional commissioner of police BS Brar did not even know that Sudhir Yadav, the Deputy Commissioner, was at the Hilton.

``He must be in the area,'' Brar told The Indian Express. But both Yadav's office and the north district control room confirmed he had not come to the north district at all. A parent learnt accidentally that he was at the Hilton attending some function. Police say that doctors at the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital are yet to give the green signal to take the injured bus driver's statement. ``Principal investigations will begin once his statement is recorded,'' Brar says.
