Chatterjee bags five

JAMSHEDPUR, Nov 21: Utpal Chatterjee's five-wicket haul and a 95-run second wicket partnership between Prosenjit Ganguly and Devang Gandhi saw Bengal post an emphatic seven-wicket win over host Bihar in the East Zone Ranji Trophy one-dayer at Keenan Stadium, here, today.

Brief scores: Bihar 137 (Rajiv Kumar 32; S Majumder 2-32, Utpal Chatterjee 5-13) lost to Bengal 140 for three (Prosenjit Ganguly 50, Devang Gandhi not out 70)

Assam beat Orissa

CUTTACK: Orissa's poor run in the East Zone one-day league continued as it lost to Assam by eight runs at the Barabati Stadium, here, today.Orissa had earlier lost the one-dayer and the four-day match against Bengal at Balasore.

Tie rained off

CHENNAI: Early morning rains prevented any play in the South Zone one-day limited overs cricket match between Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu, here, today. After two inspections, umpires JC Umrigar (Mumbai) and Adil Bhatia (Gujarat) called off the match. The teams shared two points.

MP qualify

JAIPUR: Brilliant century by opener Jai Prakash Yadav (112 not out) and his 141-run unbroken third wicket stand with Abbas Ali (65 not out) led Madhya Pradesh to a resounding eight wicket victory over hosts Rajasthan, here, today.

Madhya Pradesh finished their league engagements with this match and topped the zone with an unbeaten record to qualify for the Wills Trophy.

Medium pacer Harvinder Sing Sodhi (3-35) and leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani (4-42) earlier restricted Rajasthan to 214-9.
