Bangar scalps six for Western Railway

November 21: Sanjay Bangar claimed six wickets for 62 to help Western Railway restrict Elf Lubricants to 185 on the opening day of the Division `A' Times Shield cricket tournament on Friday.

Western replied with 30 for two wickets at the close of play. The batsmen out were Nitin Surve and Banger.

Rajesh Pawar, the youngest Mumbai Ranji player, lifted SunGrace Mafatlal from a hopeless position against Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF).He made 46 to help SunGracelift recover from 64 for seven to 132 all out. Then he claimed four wickets for 24 to have RCF struggling at 93 for six. Maharashtra Ranji Sameer Inamdar had run through SunGrace's innings with a haul of six for 41. He was well supported by Vivek Narayane who claimed two wickets.

Air-India openers Amol Rane (106, 254b, 11x4) and Amit Velaskar (99, 205 b, 13x4) added 205 runs against Central Railway at the MIG Ground Bandra, Velaskar made 99 before being caught by Bhatnagar. The same fieldsman caught Rane of off-spinner Jay Dhuri after a well-made 106 off 308 balls with 11 fours.

Brief scores: ELF Lubricants 185 (Jatin Paranjpe 52, Zubin Bharucha 28; Sanjay Bangar 6-62, Nasir Khan 2-45) vs Western Rly 30-2. SunGrace Mafatlal 132 (Rajesh Pawar 46, Sameer Inamdar 6-41, Vivek Naravne 2-28) vs RCF 93-6 (Sulaksan Kulkarni batting 37, Rajesh Pawar 4-24).

Air-India 296-2 (Amit Velaskar 99, Amol Rane 106, Sameer Dighe batting 49) vs Central Railway.

Bagul stars

MUMBAI, November 21: Under-16 discard Sangram Bagul helped Shri Ma Bal Niketan (Thane) defeat St Joseph (Malad) by six wickets to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the Harris Shield Inter-schools cricket tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday.

Bagul took seven wickets for 25 in 15 overs with his medium pace bowling to restrict their rivals to 105 and then went on to score an unbeaten 41 in his side's total of 107 for four.

An unbeaten 101-run partnership for the fifth wicket between P Kaji (52) and N Daru (50) enabled Jasudben ML beat Cumballa Hills by six wickets.
