Poll panel readies for the slog; elections likely by Feb-end

Short of a miracle, the country looks set for a mid-term poll in February next year. And keeping this in view, the Election Commission is girding itself to conduct the massive exercise for the second time in 18 months.

After Naresh Agarwal's abortive bid to dislodge Pramod Tiwari from the Congress Legislature Party leadership, it is now senior Congress leader Ammar Rizvi's turn to take a shot at the coveted post in Uttar Pradesh. Agarwal, disappointed after a protracted battle with Tiwari, opted for greener pastures. Rizvi's idea is to stay in the party and oust Tiwari from the post of CLP leader.
