SEBI probe into Chhabria stake in Hebertsons

[Details] The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has begun investigations into the acquisition of 47.5% stake by Kishore Chhabria in Herbertsons Ltd. The regulatory body, apparently not satisfied with the reply that it got for a show-cause notice issued to Chhabria, has sent the relevant papers to its investigation and vigilance department for scrutiny and necessary action.

Two more SC judges "suspend" Pak CJ

[Details] Pakistan's Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah came under attack again on Thursday as two judges of the Peshawar Bench of the Supreme Court suspended him on the issue of seniority, plunging the country into an unprecedented crisis. The two judges of the Peshawar bench of the Supreme Court upheld the judgment by the Baluchistan Bench of the court that Shah's appointment to the top judicial post be ``held in abeyance''.

No entry in Lanka for BBC with Midnight's Children in tow

[Details] Relenting to pressure from various Muslim groups and political parties, Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga has revoked permission to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for filming controversial writer Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children in Sri Lanka. In a letter to BBC producer Christopher Hall, Secretary to the President, K Balapatabendi said that "having considered all aspects involved in the film, the government of Sri Lanka is regrettably unable to grant permission to BBC to proceed with the filming of it."
