India File -- Uzma for Hopman

NOV 29: HYDERABAD: National grass court champion Uzma Khan of Hyderabad has been selected to represent India in the Hopman Cup tennis, to be held in Perth in the first week of January, 1998.

Uzma, who played for India in the Fed Cup in New Zealand early this year, had a series of sterling performances. Starting with the ITF Junior world ranking title at Indore, she went on to bag three more crowns in the under-18 age group. In the Fed Cup, though India lost the rubber, she registered the only win from the Indian side.

Football team

CALCUTTA: Chaitali Kar of Bengal will lead India in the 11th Asian women's football championship to be held in China from December 4.

Team: Binasuri Devi (Manipur), Robita Devi (Manipur), Srilatha (Kerala), Chaitali Kar (Bengal), Kumari Devi (Manipur), Khambi Devi (Manipur), Meenu Sulanki (Rajasthan), Bentla D'Coth (Kerala), Bemben Devi (Manipur), Alpana Sil (Bengal), Chaoba Debi (Manipur), Maria Rebelo (Goa), Gurmeet Kaur (Punjab), Lokeswari Devi (Manipur), Tababi Devi (Manipur), Sujata Kar (Bengal), Seena C V (Kerala) and S Samanta Ray (Orissa).

Cousins win

CALCUTTA: Country cousins C K Pasari, Aditya Bajoria, B Khemka and M L Agarwal, lifted the Classic golf trophy defeating Pro Cons by a slender margin of just one stroke at the Tollygunge Club here today.

One of the best rounds of the day was scored by well-known cricketer Kapil Dev who returned a gross 72-nett 67.
